About Us

People always say that the best way to learn how to speak a language is to travel to a place where you have no other choice but to communicate in that language. Unfortunately, most students in schools have no such opportunity and must resort to practicing their speaking in class, which doesn’t create the same naturally motivating environment.

Classpeaks aims to connect millions of English classrooms, and more specifically students, for one-on-one conversations with peers of similar age and fluency from around the world. Our aim is to improve their English speaking skills as well as to enrich their cultural perspective and to develop their ability to successfully collaborate in an interconnected world.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create an authentic context for language learners to acquaint themselves with people from other cultures while improving their speaking ability in their target language. We believe this is important for a few reasons.

Firstly, school curriculum is often isolated from what students are expected to do in the real world, reducing their motivation to learn. We aim to bring the real-life use of a foreign language into the classroom, so as to both increase student motivation to learn and speak as well as to leave them no choice but to use what they have learned.

Secondly, as our world becomes more interconnected, the ability to navigate collaboration with people from diverse backgrounds is paramount. Learners need to be culturally sensitive, know how to deal with misunderstandings and familiarize themselves with remote collaboration.

Thirdly, as our world continues to struggle with global challenges which require a global effort, such as climate change, we will need a sense of global community, in which citizens from different countries can empathize with one another.
